About Image QR Codes

An image QR code stores the URL of a picture that is already hosted somewhere on the web. When someone scans it, their phone opens the image in the default browser or image viewer. The code works like a URL code, but the destination is a single file rather than a page.

Because the link is stored directly in the pattern, the code keeps working as long as the image remains online at the same address. There is no redirect service between the scan and the image.

Hosting Your Image

Solancr does not store files. The image must already be available at a public URL before you generate the code. Common hosts include your own website, Google Drive with a share link, Dropbox, or a dedicated image host. Whichever you use, the link must return the image file itself, not an HTML page that displays it.

To confirm, open the link in a private browser window. If a bare image fills the tab, the link is correct. If you see a page with an image inside it, you need the direct file URL.

Tips for Reliable Image Codes

  • Use the direct file URL ending in the image extension, such as .jpg or .png.
  • Keep the URL short if possible. Long URLs with tracking parameters create denser QR patterns.
  • Check that the image loads without a login. Private share links will not open after a scan.
  • Use a reasonable file size. Full-resolution images can be slow on mobile networks.
